RULES AND REGULATIONS

ARTICLE 1. ORGANIZATION

Bartaruga Investment Srl  inventor of the race and depositary of the brand, looks after the  logistic organization of the 6th edition of the “100km del Caribe” in the Dominican Republic June 2nd -  11th  2019.

ARTICLE 2.  RUN DEFINITION

It’s a trail running race in stages open to Runners, Walkers and Nordic Walkers. It will take place along the North Coast of the Dominican Republic with a distance of approximately 100 km divide into 5 stages.

The event is also open to non-expert athletes. The whole course is in complete safety, but caution and an adequate preparation for the distances to cover and the altimetry to overcome are required.

ARTICLE 3. CONDITIONS OF ENROLMENT

The race is open to athletes, turned 18 by the date of the race.

Athletes with at least 16 years old, can participate with a sign consent form by one of the parents.

The participants must have a medical clearance attesting  the suitability of the participant to take part in the race. All participants must sign a consent form, absolving the organization of any responsibility.

ARTICLE 4. MEDICAL ASSISTANCE AND INSURANCE

Bartaruga Investment Srl have subscribed a civil liability insurance policy. Athletes are recommended to subscribe an individual insurance policy.

All foreign competitor have to  be insured for repatriation for health reasons, is mandatory to have a personal insurance stipulated in your country of residence.

Medical assistance will be provided at the start and end of each single stage, over the course and in some of the check points.

The competitors participate under their own responsibility and the organization cannot in any way be held responsible for accidents, falls or illness including death during the race.

The organization is not required to provide insurance for any civil risk and is relieved of any responsibility for accidents, death or damage faced by the athletes during the race.

ARTICLE 5.  DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY

Participants are fully aware of the risks connected with this competition and voluntarily assume full responsibility in taking part in this event. The organization will not be liable for any losses, accidents, falls, illness, injuries, death or damage of any nature which may possibly occur during the entire duration of the race.

All participants in the program with the signing of this regulation state that they were informed in detail about the problems and / or risks arising from the race and accept this regulations with each one of its articles and authorize the organization to do any kind of changes on the articles of the regulation according to article 18.

Taking note of the relevant security measures taken by the organization, which however is not responsible for any accident that might possibly occur during the duration of the race.   

Individual participants cannot even attribute any responsibility to the other competitors, even in case of contact or accident caused by them during the race.

The examination and the signing of this Regulation by all participants, exempts  the organization and all the companies involved in the organization of the race of any responsibility.

Upon registration, athletes acknowledge that they have read and understood the contents of these Rules and they have agreed to the terms.

ARTICLE 6. ACCEPTANCE OF REGULATIONS

Enrolment in the race is seen as acceptance of the present regulations in any form on the part of the competitors. This includes any amendments and authorizes the organization to make any intervention or modification during the event (as for ART 18).

The organization reserve the right to make rules, change course and start times at any time.

ARTICLE 7. EQUIPMENT

Competitors must be semi-self-sufficient. At each single stage, all participants MUST carry (on pain of disqualification):

  • Personal bib number, given by the Organization, which must always be perfectly and entirely visible and attached to the front of the shirt or jacket. A 30 minutes penalty will be given to the competitor that doesn’t respect this rule.
  • Flasks or the like containing a liter of water at least.
  • Food supplies according to each one’s need.
  • Whistle
  • Thermal blanket.
  • Trail shoes or closed running footwear are mandatory. It is forbidden to wear sandals or open shoes.
  • Trail poles are optional.

Athletes’ equipment will be checked at the start of each stage.

It is recommended to wear sunglasses, a cap, and to have spray or lotion against mosquitoes.

ARTICLE 8. CATEGORIES

There will be 4 categories:

Male category Runner

Female category  Runner

Male category walker or Nordic Walker

Female category walker or Nordic Walker

 

 ARTICLE 9. PRIZES

Overall winners will be able to participate in the 7th Edition 2020  free with Hotel included. The flight is not included.

Cups and plates will be awarded to the 3 winners in each category. Special prizes will be issued at the discretion of the organization. Each competitor to reach the finish line will be issued with a souvenir medal and a finisher t-shirt.

ARTICLE 10. CLASSIFICATION

The final ranking will be drawn up on the basis of the sum of the five times of the five stages. The total time for each stage will determine the final classification. The winner will obviously be the one who has the lowest time score, then in sequence.

ARTICLE 11. TIME LIMIT

The time limit in the 2nd stage is 6 hours. All participants has to arrive to  CP3 (14.7 Km) within 12 o’clock.

The time limit in the 4th stage is 10 hours with a cut off time of 5 hours at CP2 (22.6 Km) and 8 hours to CP3 (Km 36). In the remaining stages there is no time limit imposed.

However, the organization has the right to stop a runner in case of delay or obvious problems that compromise the smooth conduct of the race.

ARTICLE 12. THE ROUTE

The entire route will be marked by the organization using coloured ribbon, flags and groups of stones sprayed with the agreed colour. Competitors are obliged to follow this route. Is not possible to cut along the route, furthermore it’s necessary the punching of the tickets at the check points. Only along the route assistance and recovery for the competitors will be granted.

ARTICLE 13. THE RACE / PENALTIES

Briefings will be held at the starting line of each single stage half an hour before the start. Competitors must start with at least 1 liter of water and all the obligatory equipment.

  • Water and fruits will be provided at the check points.
  • Athletes can be penalized in the following situations:
  • Bib number is not visible.
  • Throw garbage during the race.
  • If you are register as a walker and instead you run. Walkers and Nordic Walkers are NOT ALLOW to run.

PENALTIES:

1st call: 30 minutes penalty.

2nd call 45 minutes penalty.

3rd call exclusion of the race.

Penalties can be given by any official member of the 100km del Caribe Staff.

ARTICLE 14. CLIMATE AND TERRAIN

In June the average temperature in the island is forecast at 31° degrees Celsius with negligible humidity.

The terrain for the single stages varies from one stage to the other.

ARTICLE 15. ABANDONING THE RACE

In case of definitive abandonment, the competitor must immediately communicate his or her decision to the commission and hand in the bib number. He or she will then remain under the care of the race party until the end of the race except in the case of medical problems. In case of partial abandonment, i.e., withdrawal from one leg, the competitor will be given the maximum time for the leg plus a 1 hour time penalty, but may take part in all the other legs.

ARTICLE 16. DISQUALIFICATION

Participants can be disqualified if they:

  • Miss the check at the start or in one of the checkpoints over the courses.
  • Do not have one of the mandatory pieces of equipment (see article 6).
  • Use a means of transport;
  • Receive non-authorized aid;
  • Throw rubbish out of the aid stations;
  • Refuse to be visited by the race doctors or doesn’t accept doctor’s decisions in any time of the race.
  • Use threats or verbal abuses to the Organizing Committee or behave improperly. The Organizing committee have the ultimate and final authority to disqualify athletes.

ARTICLE 17.  COPYRIGHT

All the rights of use of the images of the “100km del Caribe” are exclusive to the organizers. The competitors, on enrolment, consent to the use of their names and images by the organization. All photographs, videos or films taken during the race may not be used by the competitors except for private use, unless special permission has been granted.

ARTICLE 18. RIGHTS OF THE ORGANIZATION

The Director of the race has the right to intervene and modify, at his own will and for the reasons that he will explain during the technical briefing, the development of the race as per the present rules. The direction of the race also has the right to modify the route, the kilometers or the legs for reasons due to the climatic conditions, or for both security and technical reasons.
